Long Lane
The Brief
Private new house
Built
Completed October 2013
Description
Following a devastating fire which destroyed a semi-detached pair of listed thatched cottages, initial work entailed de-listing and then demolishing the remains of the cottage. Working with the client and alongside their household insurers a replacement house has been built to sit on the similar footprint as the original. As only one of the pair was to be rebuilt, the new house is now detached and has a plain tile roof in place of the original thatch. An improved arrangement of internal spaces and circulation has been achieved within the constraints that the project presented including the provision of a separate utility room. Good levels of insulation combined with the integration of an air source heat pump and low temperature radiators has resulted in a very efficient dwelling.
